CONVERSATIONAL SANSKRIT-19

Lesson- 19

                                                                       Unit I

 

बहि: अन्त:   Out side x Inside .

 

1.     गृहात्  बहि:     वृक्ष:  अस्ति गृहस्य अन्त: पादप: अस्ति ||

The tree is outside of the house. The plant is inside of the house.

 

2. पाठशालाया: बहि: व्यायामशाला अस्ति पाठशालाया:  अन्त: ग्रन्थालय: अस्ति || 

The gymnasium is outside of the school. The library is inside of the school.

 

3.     देवालयस्य अन्त: शिवलिङ्ग: अस्ति देवालयात्  बहि: नन्दीश्वर:  अस्ति ||    

The shrine of Siva is inside of the temple. The idol of Nandi is outside of the temple.

4.. तटाकस्य अन्त: मकरा: सन्ति तटाकात्  बहि: मर्कटा सन्ति |

There are crocodiles inside the lake and monkeys outside the lake.

 Note: Try to compose at least ten sentences using these two words बहि: x अन्त: explaining what is inside and what is outside of your house.

 

Unit-2

 

इतोऽपि  = something more/ some more 

 

1.     भवता दत्तं धनं पर्याप्तं  भवति अत:  इतोऽपि किञ्चित् ददातु ||

The money given by you is not sufficient. Therefore, give something more.

2.  मम पिपासा  अपगता अत: इतोऽपि किञ्चित् जलं ददातु ||

My thirst has not subsided therefore give more amount of water.

3.     मम कार्यं  समाप्तम् अत: इतोऽपि समय:  अपेक्षित:   ||

 

My work is not completed therefore I need some more time to finish it.

 

Note:- you try to compose at least 10 sentences of your own using the word इतोऽपि |

 

Unit-3

 

                                         इत्युक्ते  = It means 

 

We normally use this word to explain or translate the meaning of the unknown word into a known language. 

 

1.जामाता इत्युक्ते son-in-law इत्यर्थ:||

The meaning of Jamata is son-in-law

 

2.  लोकयानम् इत्युक्ते city bus इत्यर्थ: ||

  Lokayanam means city bus

3. Dance इत्युक्ते नर्तनम् इत्यर्थ:||

The meaning of dance is Nartanam

4. वेदण्ड: इत्युक्ते elephant इत्यर्थ:||

 Elephant is called ‘vedanda’  as it is  born out of Samaveda. Since Veda is the root cause of elephant, it is also known as samaja. 

The meaning of the word Vedanda (veda+anda) is elephant.

 

5. आनकदुन्दुभि: इत्युक्ते वसुदेव: इत्यर्थ:||

Anakadundubhi means Vasudeva , the father of Lord Krishna.

 

6. Committee इत्युक्ते कार्यवर्ग: इत्यर्थ: ||

 

The meaning of the word committee is kaaryavarga.

 

                                      Unit-4

अन्ते  आरम्भे (at the end- in beginning)

 

नाटकस्य आरम्भे नान्दी श्लोक: अस्ति नाटकस्य अन्ते भरतवाक्यम् अस्ति ||

The benedictory sloka is in the beginning of the drama and the Bharatavaakya is at the end of the drama.       

 

 

2. सभाया: आरम्भे प्रार्थनाश्लोक: भवति सभाया: अन्ते वन्दनसमर्पणम् भवति ||  

The prayer is in the beginning of the meeting and vote of thanks is at the end of the meeting.

 

3. अहं भोजनस्य आरम्भे सूपं खादामि भोजनस्य   अन्ते तक्रं पिबामि ||

 I eat dhal in the beginning of the meal, and I drink buttermilk at the end of the meal

 

Unit-5

चेत्  नोचेत्  = if---if not or otherwise.

 

1. बुभुक्षा अस्ति चेत् खादतु नो चेत्    मा खादतु ||

 

If you are hungry eat food otherwise do not eat

 

2. दीप: अस्ति चेत् पठतु नो चेत् मा पठतु ||

Read if there is light otherwise do not read.

 

3. धनम् अस्ति चेत् चलनचित्रं पश्यामि नो चेत् न पश्यामि ||  

 

I go for a movie if I have money otherwise, I do not go.   

 

      अमन्त्रमक्षरो नास्ति   नास्ति  मूलमनौषधं

      अयोग्य: पुरुषो नास्ति  योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभ:

 

There is no letter which cannot be used as Mantra. There is

 no herb (root) which is not fit to be used as medicine. Similarly, there is no man who is good for nothing. But it is very difficult to get a person who can recognize their greatness and make use of those three.
