Unit-I शक्नोति=able to or capable of.                                            

शक्नोति He or she is able to or capable of – शक्नुवन्ति They are able to or capable of

शक्नोमि I am  able to or capable of  — शक्नुम: We  are able to or capable of

 

1. स: बालक: संस्कृते संभाषणं कर्तुं शक्नोति

That boy is capable of speaking Sanskrit

     That boy can (is able to) speak in Sanskrit.

2. ते वृद्धा: वेगेन धावितुं शक्नुवन्ति

Those old men are to run fast.

 Those old people can (are able to) walk speedily.

   3. अहं संस्कृतं विना किमपि वक्तुं न शक्नोमि

       I cannot speak any language except Sanskrit.

4. वयं भारतदेशस्य समुन्नत्यै सर्वमपि त्यक्तुं शक्नुम:  

We are Indians and we can give/sacrifice everything for the sake of our country.

Note: - Try to compose at least ten sentences by using these four words:

Names of the limbs

शिर:=  head ; कपोल:=   cheek ; ललाट: fore head ; भ्रू: =  eye brow ;  अधर:= lip; वक्ष:= chest; नासिका =   nose ; कर्ण: =   ear ; नेत्रम् =    eye ; कनीनिका = Eyeball ; चिबुक:=   chin ; ओष्ठ: =  lip ; जिह्वा =   tongue; पृष्ठम् = back;  वदनम् =  face ; मुखम् =   mouth ; कन्धर: = neck ; उर:=   chest ; उदर: =  abdomen/stomach ; नाभि: =   navel ; नख: =  nail ; अङ्गुष्ठिका =    thumb ; तर्जनी=   index finger ; मध्यमा =     middle finger ; अनामिका =     ring finger;कनिष्ठिका =    little finger ; हस्त: =     hand; पाद:=     foot ; दन्त:=   tooth .

                                                       इत: पूर्वम्    x इत: परम् 

Before x After

 

1. गोपाल: इत: पूर्वं अध्यापक: आसीत् -- इत: परम् आचार्य: भविष्यति ||

Formerly Gopal was a teacher, and he will become professor in course of time. 

2. इत: पूर्वं सभा प्राचलत् इत: परं सांस्कृतिककार्यक्रमा: प्रचलिष्यन्ति ||

The meeting was held till now and cultural activities will follow next.

 

Unit –IV

 

एतादृश = such , such like., This kind –तादृश  such like, that kind , like him – कीदृश  what like, what type of .

Note: - These are different in three genders.

तादृश:   पुरुष:  -तादृशी- महिला – तादृशम्-     पुस्तकम्

कीदृश: पुरुष:?  –कीदृशी महिला?  - कीदृशम्            ( पुस्तकम्)

1. एतादृश: उत्तम: पुरुष:  समाजे आदरणीय:    भवति ||

This kind of good man is always respected in the society.

2. एतादृशी उत्तमा महिला सर्वदा पूज्या भवति||

This type of pious woman is to be honored always.

3. एतादृशं उत्तमं काव्यम् अवश्यं पठनीयं भवति ||

This sort of good treatise is always to be studied.

 

Unit –IV

 

रिक्तम्   x पूर्णम् 

Empty x full

1. कासारे जलं रिक्तम् अस्ति

The water is empty in the lake

(There is no water in the lake)

2. समुद्रे जलं  पूर्णम् अस्ति

There is full of water in the sea.

3. मम कोशे धनं रिक्तम् अस्ति

  The money is empty, in my pocket is empty.

(There is no money in my pocket)

4. वित्तकोशे धनं पूर्णम् अस्ति

There is abundant money in the bank.

पंचैते गृहिण: पोष्या: इतरे च स्वशक्तित:

 

Every house holder should take care of his guest, children, wife, and parents. If he is capable enough, he can take care of others also. And it is no wrong even if he does not take any care of them.
