నిర్గుణోs పి గుణీ భవేత్

ఇంద్రోsపి లఘుతాం యాతి

స్వయం ప్రఖ్యాపితై: గుణై:

ఇతరులు పొగిడినచో ఎంత అల్పుడైన గొప్పవాడుగా పరిగణింపబడతాడు. దేవతలకు రాజైన ఇంద్రుడు లాంటి గొప్పవాడు కూడ తనను తాను పొగడుకొంటే చాల చులకనైపోతాడు. కాబట్టి ఒక వ్యక్తి గొప్పదనం ఇతరులు చెబితే రాణిస్తుంది గాని తనకు తానే చెప్పుకుంటే రాణించదు.

परै: प्रॊक्ता गुणा : यस्य

निर्गुणोsपि गुणी भवेत्

इन्द्रॊsपि लघुतां याति

स्वयं प्रख्यापितै: गुणै:

A man will become great when his qualities are praised by others even though he is other wise. Even Indra, the leader of Gods , will be rediculed if he boasts himself.
