రాజవత్ పంచవర్షాణి

దశవర్షాణి దాసవత్

ప్రాప్తే తు షోడశే వర్షే

పుత్రం మిత్రవదాచరేత్

తల్లిదండ్రులు తమ పిల్లలను ఐదు సంవత్సరాల వరకు మహారాజుని చూసినట్లు చూడాలి. తరువాత పది సంవత్సరాల పాటు ప్రేమానురాగాలు చూపిస్తూనే కట్టుదిట్టంగా పెంచాలి. పదహారు సంవత్సరాలు పూర్తి అయిన తరువాత మిత్రుణ్ణి చూసినట్లు చూడాలి.

राजवत् पंच वर्षाणि

दशवर्षाणि दासवत् |

प्राप्तॆ तु षोडशे वर्षे

पुत्रं मित्रवदाचरेत् ||

children should be treated as kings with affection till they are five year(s) old. They should be subjected to discipline , tendered with love, for ten years. After reaching the age of sixteen they should be treated as one's own friends.
