అద్యాష్టమీతి నవమీతి త్రయోదశీతి

జ్యౌతిష్యవాచోపవసన్తి తత్ర

సాక్షాచ్ఛ్రుతం తత్వమసీతి వాక్యం

న విశ్వసన్త్య ద్భుతమేతదేవ"

ఒక శిష్యుడు " స్వామీ! ఈ లోకంలో వింతల్లోకెల్ల పెద్ద వింత ఏమైన ఉందా అని తన గురువును అడిగాడు. దానికి సమాధానంగా గురువు నాయనా! వింతల్లోకెల్ల చాల గొప్ప వింత ఒకటుంది . చెబుతాను విను. అదేంటంటే పురోహితులు వచ్చి ఈ రోజు అష్టమి, ఈ రోజు నవమి, ఈ రోజు త్రయోదశి అని చెప్పగానే అందఱు భక్తితో ఉపవాసాలు వ్రతాలు చేస్తున్నారు. కాని శ్రుతి అంటే వేదం ఒరేయ్! నువ్వు సాక్షాత్తుగా భగవంతుడివిరా అని పదే పదే నొక్కి చెబుతున్నా ఎవరు పట్టించుకోవడం లేదు. ఇంత కన్నా గొప్ప వింత ఏముంటుందయ్యా! అన్నాడు గురువు.

"अद्याष्टमीति नवमीति त्रयॊदशीति

ज्यौतिष्यवाचॊपवसन्ति तत्र

साक्षाच्छ्रुतं तत्त्वमसीति वाक्यं

न विश्वसन्त्यद्भुतमॆतदॆव

A student of Vedanta asked his teacher whether there is any amazing thing in the world. As a reply the teacher said like this:

It is really an amazing thing that people who observe so many vratas and fasts with devotion during the auspicious days of 'Ashtami' , ' Navami', ' Trayodashi' and so on, by being instructed by priests; ignore the command “ Tat tvam asi ” ( Thou art That ) given by the Veda, which means that ' ' You are the Ultimate Reality ”.
