పితా రక్షతి కౌమారే భర్తా రక్షతి యౌవనే

తనయ: స్థవిరే భావే న స్త్రీ స్వాతంత్ర్యమర్హతి ( మనుస్మృ తి)

"స్త్రీని చిన్నతనంలో తండ్రి రక్షిస్తాడు . యౌవనంలో భర్త రక్షిస్తాడు. వార్ధక్యంలో పుత్రుడు రక్షిస్తాడు. స్త్రీ స్వతంత్రించుటకు అర్హురాలు కాదు" అని మనువు వాక్యాన్ని అపార్థం చేసుకుంటోంది నేటి సమాజం. యత్ర నార్యస్తు పూజ్యంతే రమంతే తత్ర దేవతా: అన్న మనువు ఈ విధంగా చెప్పడం పరస్పరవిరుద్ధం అనిపించక మానదు. కాబట్టి ఆ మాటల్లోని తాత్పర్యాన్ని అర్థం చేసుకోవాలి. సూక్ష్మంగా ఆలోచిస్తే తాత్పర్యం అర్థమౌతుంది. పై మూడు పాదాల్లోనున్న రక్షతి అనే పదాన్ని బట్టి నాల్గవ పాదం ద్వార స్త్రీ ఏ దశలోను రక్షణ లేకుండ ఉండకూడదనే విషయం స్పష్ట మౌతోంది. మరో విషయం. వేదం లోని ప్రతి వర్తమాన కాల క్రియకు 'విధి' అర్థం. స్మృ తి వేదానికనుబంధం. దీన్ని బట్టి 'రక్షతి' అనే క్రియకు 'రక్షించవలెను' అనే అర్థం వస్తుంది. ఈ విషయాన్ని మనం గమనించకపోవడం వల్లనే నేడు పసి కందుల్ని రక్షించవలసిందిపోయి గర్భంలోనే తుంచేస్తున్నారు. యౌవనంలో అత్యాచారాలెక్కువయ్యాయి. వార్ధక్యంలో నిరాదరణకు గురి ఔతున్నారు.

तनय: स्थविरे भावे न स्त्री स्वातन्त्र्यमर्हति ( मनु :)

“Father protects in child hood ; Husband protects in youth; Son protects in old age; woman does not deserve freedom” is the literal meaning of the verse. Here the word रक्षति (Rakshati ) meaning ' protection'. The first three lines should be correlated with the fourth line to get its true meaning and purport. It is not out of p lace to mention here that the Vedic sentences ar e meaning ful so far as they are related to some action. More over , every verb used there in present tense should be understood in imperative sense. So the verb ”rakshati “ which means 'protection ' should be understood as “should be protected “. Then it sounds that a woman should always b e protected at every stage in her life and should not be left without protection under any circumstances . The result of ignoring this dictum, causes many problems in the present day world. Father is not taking care in bringing up his daughters; husband his wife and children their mother. Female children are killed before they see the light of the day. Gang rapes are witnessed. Old women are left without proper care.
